Birren Center Community Hub Guidelines

Welcome to the Birren Community Hub! This is an exciting opportunity for you to develop your skills, share ideas and expertise, connect with colleagues, add your name to the instructor locator map, and support the Birren Center for Autobiographical Studies. As we grow, we will ensure all subscribers will have access to new resources including a community of support. Here are the benefits of joining:

  • Connection with an expanding network of fellow GAB instructors worldwide through the GAB Forum

  • A personalized link on the GAB instructor locator map on the main Birren Center public website. This will allow anyone who visits the website to find you, your contact information, and GAB classes. 

Purpose of the Guidelines

These Guidelines establish the protocol for subscribers to the Birren Center Community Hub. GAB Instructors will be expected to maintain the quality and integrity of the Guided Autobiography (GAB) Code of Ethics. (Link) and the Birren website Terms and Conditions (Link). This will foster a supportive, respectful, and professional code of conduct within the Birren Center Community Hub.

1. GAB Resources

1.1 Access:  Subscribers will have access to all features and content available on the Community Hub with new information being released throughout the year. 

1.2 Ownership:  The Birren Center retains exclusive ownership of all GAB Materials, including copyrights, trademarks, and all intellectual property rights.

1.3  Use of Materials:  Subscribers are allowed to adapt materials provided in the Community Hub for individualized teaching and facilitation but you do not own them. Subscribers must acknowledge the author and source of the materials for compliance with the Birren Center’s intellectual property rights (including copyright).

2. Account Responsibilities

2.1 Security:  Subscribers are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your personal account, your credentials, and all activities listed therein. Subscribers must notify the Birren Center of any unauthorized use of your account or any other breach of security.

2.2 Usage:  Subscribers agree not to share their account or access credentials with others and not to use the Community Hub for unlawful or unauthorized purpose.

2.3 Fees and Payments:  Subscribers agree to pay  the annual fee of $125 when you subscribe to ensure continued access to the site.

2.4 Refunds:  Subscriber fees are non-refundable. In cases of exceptional circumstances, the Birren Center may consider refunds or credits at its sole discretion.

3. Termination and Cancellation

3.1 Voluntary Termination:  Subscribers may cancel their subscription to the Community Hub at any time by providing written notice to the Birren Center. In cases of exceptional circumstances, the Birren Center may consider a refund or credit at its sole discretion.

3.2 Involuntary Termination:  The Birren Center reserves the right to suspend or terminate any account for violation of these Guidelines or if such action is necessary to protect the Birren Center community and its services.

4. Forum

4.1 Safe Haven:  The Birren Center will not tolerate harassment, misinformation, or intimidation of any kind. Any posts, comments, or messages deemed inappropriate, rude, or aggressive will be removed. Any subscriber with a complaint about an objectionable post is encouraged to contact the Birren Center by email.

4.2 Meaningful Discussion:  Spamming, unsolicited direct messages, sharing materials without permission, and overly self-promotional content will be removed.

5. Updates to Guidelines

5.1 Updates:  The Birren Center may update these Guidelines from time to time. Changes will be communicated to the Community Hub Subscribers via email or through the Birren Center’s website messaging. Continued use of the Community Hub constitutes acceptance of the revised terms.

6. Limitation of Liability

6.1 Liability:  The Birren Center is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from use of  the Community Hub or any content provided, including but not limited to loss of data or business interruptions.

7. Acceptance of the Guidelines

7.1 Acceptance:  By registering for or using our services, subscribers acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these guidelines, including any updates or modifications.
