Katherine Schulten

About

Katherine has been a writing teacher for over 40 years, first in New York City public high schools, then as the longtime editor of The New York Times Learning Network, and now as a GAB instructor.

No matter what her official role – whether in a newsroom or a classroom – Katherine’s focus has always been on encouraging people to tell their stories and share them with others. Via her work at The Times, she has created opportunities for hundreds of thousands of teenagers across the globe to document their lives, express themselves creatively, and get their voices out into the world.

Katherine completed both a Master’s Degree in teaching and a fellowship in journalism at Columbia University. She is also a proud member of the National Writing Project and a certified workshop leader for Amherst Writers & Artists. She believes everyone has a strong, unique voice and that there is no better way to strengthen it than writing in community with others.
